Massomeh Spahr Death Doula & Transformational Healer

Massomeh Spahr is a native New Yorker and the seventh child of two Caribbean born parents. With her vibrant heritage, old soul vibe, positivity, and calmness, she is able to actively listen and support the needs of her clients in the preparation for end of life and coach their loved ones in the grieving process. Massomeh was trained at the International End of Life Doula Association and volunteers at in-home and facility hospice care in her free time.

Dr. Masonya Joy Bennett  Assistant Professor of Black Studies at Kennesaw State Universit

Dr. Masonya Joy Bennett is from Morven, North Carolina. Bennett is a Cultural Anthropologist and currently an Assistant Professor of Black Studies at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. Her research and teaching interests concern Black Popular Culture(s), race/processes of racialization in the US South and Latin America, movements, migrations, tourism, social entrepreneurship, and sustainability in the African Diaspora, and the role of space, place, material culture, and affect in the production of Black identity/subjectivity. She has either lived, worked, and/or conducted research in Dominican Republic, Honduras, Colombia, and Brazil. Bennett is also the Founder and Executive Director of Parallel Cultures, a registered 501c3 organization based in North Carolina. ​

What is Hapeh and why are we using this medicine for The New EAyRTH Experience?

Hapé (pronounced "ha-pay") is a sacred medicine traditionally used by Indigenous tribes in the Amazon and South America. It is a powerful plant-based snuff made from a combination of powdered herbs, seeds, and tree bark, often including the tobacco plant. Hapé is usually administered through a pipe (called a "Tepi") into the nostrils, creating a quick and intense experience that can have profound physical, emotional, and spiritual effects.
